Review: Mario Kart and the Nintendo Switch
There aren’t many games that can reach out to as broad an audience as Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Despite a number of racing games on the market, this action ride continues to be a hit for all the family.
Fun for all the family!
The beauty of this game is that anyone can pick it up and have a good play with little to no experience, yet as you begin to learn the controls like A to accelerate, B to brake, R to drift, the competitive level begins to dramatically increase. You might find yourself tempted to have a go at racing online or competitively with some companions. You can even play offline in local multiplayer mode, but don’t forget about story mode!
Mario Karts Grand Prix races range from fairly easy to insanely fast and tricky using their classic engine size system ranging from 50cc-200cc. Equipped with a roster of original Nintendo characters, each with a set of unique animations for different racing tricks, you get to complete the arduous task of winning a race!
Online you get the choice to either have a regional or global match and using the points system you always end up with a fairly evenly matched team. The margin between first and last place is incredibly slim and definitely keeps you hooked to the screen. If you want to make things interesting you can always have a go at battle mode where you have to dodge all kinds of dangers and take your opponent out using item boxes.
All the racecourses are new and exciting, the animations are upgraded but retain their originality and you even get to choose from a huge range of statistically unique cars, wheels and a parachute!
Mario Kart meets Nintendo Switch
We wasted no time making use of the external Nintendo Switch Pro Controller which seriously enhances the usability of the Nintendo Switch, you can use the kickstand at the back to prop up the console anywhere you like or easily connect it to any HDMI ready screen or television using the Nintendo Switch Dock.
With absolutely no trouble at all you’ll find yourself playing on any medium you prefer using the two gyroscopic controllers to blast around the tracks, in multiplayer mode!
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a testament to the original games as well as the new Nintendo Switch. The versatility of the game offers you a lot of options for playing which does a lot of justice to what the Nintendo Switch is capable of. This makes the gaming dynamic a bit more serious and definitely you want to make some serious use of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
